Windsor Schools of Paterson, state approved programs for classified students, are making a difference in alternative education for students who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other behavioral concerns. Academic achievement , community service and mainstreaming are realities for Windsor Students.
Classrooms feature a certified teacher with at least two classroom aides and twelve or less students in a class.
The programs feature a strong, structured behavior modification system, counseling and parental communication. We provide quality education and build academic achievement and self-esteem in children with a history of under-achievement in school. We believe any child, despite, their presenting behavior and social background, wants acceptance, achievement, knowledge, and the ability to interact well with others. Our challenge is finding the key that unlocks the individual potential of each student in a warm, nurturing environment which encourages the potential to flourish.
In addition to the regularly scheduled classroom instruction, remedial and supplemental teachers provide individualized and small group instruction based upon identified academic strengths and weaknesses.
All testing programs which are part of the New Jersey Department of Education's program for student assessment are administered at the Windsor Schools. The individual child's results help to reinforce the development of each child's academic program.
Each student has behaved in ways that prohibited them from functioning in the traditional school setting. Through a persistent system of positive reinforcement, the Windsor Schools can reach our primary goal: the improvement of the educational and social functioning of each student, with successful reintegration into the public schools as the ultimate objective.
Inclusion is our mission! Many Windsor students are returning to their home school district and performing well. Behavior modification is achieved by stressing the rewards of academic diligence and good conduct via a student ranking system with graduated privileges including athletic, other extracurricular, and community service activities.
Our counseling program features classroom and small group sessions for personal problem solving and building self-esteem. In group counseling sessions, students learn the value of teamwork, respect for others, and the achievement of reaching a common goal. Social skills are constantly reinforced.
Parents are encouraged to meet with our teachers and school social workers to discuss an individual child's progress. Weekly phone calls to all parents from the teachers are a part of our continuous program of information sharing regarding a child's academic and social progress.
The Windsor Schools feature community relations activities, including nursing home visits and other community service projects. The Windsor Schools also promote the development of social skills important to the success of each student in the community and work place. Our goal is to prepare our students for life after high school.
Cutting-edge technology is apparent at the Windsor Schools. Computers in the classrooms and in the computer lab have Internet access. A state-of-the-art network connects all computers between each of the classrooms.
Students are encouraged to enter post-secondary programs. Many Windsor students are now in college, from community colleges to four year programs both in and out of state. For students who choose a different path, many enroll in advanced technical and vocational programs.
